DJ Fire

Do you have any hobbies, besides the music?
My main hobbies are watching movies, going to the gym 2 times a week and going to clubs/restaurants whenever I have time.

Do you listen to something else than trance?
I also listen to popmusic, I like R&B and older New-wave music as well.

Will Fire & Ice release an album?
An album is not planned yet, maybe next year. But we'll have to score really big before we plan on doing a complete album...

Do you produce your music mainly for clubbing? Because you release all of your productions on vinyl and not cd single
At the moment our company decided not to release cd-singles, because our tracks are mainly known by clubbers and is usually not played on radiostations. Unlike Ian van Dahl for instance, who produce much more commercial tracks, that are liked by a big audience...

If you are able to choose any artist, which one would you like to collaborate with?
I'd like to collaborate with Tiesto or Sasha. I also like Armin's music.

What kind of roles do you both in Fire & Ice have in the studio?
I choose the direction/style and give my ideas. L-Vee usually plays the patterns/music, because it's his studio and he knows all the equipment.

What kind of music did you listen to when you grew up?
I listened to popmusic, soul, some new-wave and rock as well...

Do you plan to re-release any of your classic hits i.e Forever Young?
We might re-release some of our classics, but not yet. We placed "Out of Darkness" on the b-side of "Souvenir de Chine" and "Lost Emotions" on the b-side of the 2001 remix. So those were already 2 classics. And Bonzai UK is going to re-release "Neverending Melody" on the b-side of "Heart and Mind".

Do you plan to visit Sweden?
I hope to get some bookings in Sweden. I liked Oslo, Norway very much. So let's wait for those promoters to book me...

Which of your own tracks do you like the best?
I still love "Silent Cry". This really is the most emotional Fire & Ice for me so far...

Describe your music in three words.
Power, Emotion, Party.

What do you think of the trance-scene at the moment?
It's still doing ok, even though it's getting too commercial. And that's why a lot of people suddenly dislike trance. More and more people are switching to other style's... I hope it will stay here forever!

Tell us about your best and worst gig ever.
My best gig ever had to be the one on the Summerboat-party in Oslo. It was really great to play on a boat in the sun on one of the fjords there...
My worst gig would have to be in a small hall in Antwerp, where the people were drunk and were walking against the discobar. The needle started skipping and people didn't even care. Afterwards some of them were even agressive and it almost turned into a big fight...

Something to say to your fans?
Hope you fans will all stay dedicated to trance and still visit the clubs. That is the main problem of 2002, not enough people are visiting the clubs/parties. So clubs go down the drain, parties stop,... This is very dangerous for the music-scene. Dance/trance can't survive without clubs!

And finally, what can we expect from you in the future?
You can expect more Fire & Ice-tracks, lots of remixes, more Dj Fire releases and some other collaborations with other producers... Hopefully
I'll get an international break-through as a dj in 2003!
