Michael Splint

Michael Splint från Danmark är en hyfsat välkänd DJ för oss i Norden, men framförallt i Danmark där han är resident på, ja kanske en av världens bästa klubbar – Club Gorgeous.

Michaels DJ karriär tog fart när han var 16 år och började lira på den lokala klubben. Då var det inte bara elektronisk musik han spelade. Efter något år började han sända ett lokalt radioprogram kallat ”Sound of Music” med några av sina bästa vänner. Det visade sig bli mycket populärt och då fick de börja sända på en större radiostation kallad: Radio ABC. Michael började i samma veva få mer spelningar på house- och trancefester runtom i Danmark, så han slutade upp med att göra radiosändningar.

Efter några år av spelningar här och där så slutade Michael att Dj´a för att istället börja jobba på en av Danmarks största skivaffärer kallat Stereo Studio. Men det skulle bara bli ett kort avbrott från DJ´andet. Michaels vän frågade om han ville följa med till Danmarks huvudstad Köpenhamn för att starta affärer. Michael bestämmde sig efter ett par månader att följa med och när han väl kom till Köpenhamn började han få kontakter med olika klubbar och började att DJ´a igen.

Michael och ett par vänner åkte till Gatecrasher, dit även en ägare av ett stort diskotek i Danmark medföljde som blev mäkta imponerad över publiken och DJ´n som spelade kanonlåt efter kanonlåt. Detta förändrade allting, för efter denna resa så kom Club Gorgeous i tankarna och tidigt år 2000 öppnades klubben. Sedan den dagen har Michael varit resident där!

Michael är nu 31 år och på senare år har han också börjat göra egna produktioner och remixar andras låtar. Då han producerar gör han det tillsammans med andra. Michaels fru brukar oftast sjunga i hans produktioner.

Nu när han lirar på den nionde episoden av Landscape så passar jag självklart på att intervjua han.

Ligaya: Tell me yor feelings when you play a set when it is a full Club G.
Splint: When the crowd rocks to the tunes you play there is nothing better (well maybe sex with my wife :)). A true feeling of happiness.

Ligaya: What is it that you look for in the audience when you select the next tune to play?
Splint: I dont really look for any particular thing in the audience before selecting the next tune... But I REALLY like to play cool melodic stuff and many times the audience wants it harder - a lot sooner than I wanna play hard... So you can say I try to see how long I can take the melodic trip...

Ligaya: What would you do if a track, perhaps a new favourite of yours, is being totally rejected by the crowd when you play it?
Quickly go on to the next track, and cry a bit on the inside :)

Ligaya: I know you producing/remixing. Tell me more, when did you start doing that?
Splint: Actually I didnt start doing any of that before last summer... I´ve thought about it many times, but always thought that it would be too expensive to start up from scratch, so when I asked Tukan/F&W to help me out and they said yes, it all kinda took off from there... After they had big success with their own stuff, I invested a bit and hooked up with DJ friend and producer Lars Freisig and we are now doing stuff under the names Falcon & Barbed Wire.

Ligaya: Which of your tunes are you most satisfied with?
Splint: Remix wise its The World To Me (Michael Splint Meets Tukan Remix) - the artist name/project is still "Unknown". Production wise it´s gonna be the next Michael Splint Pres. Eruption single...
I mean I love ‘I Feel Free’, but this next one is written by F&W, me and my wife... The first one was only produced by us and composed by parsberg/stavnstrup.

Ligaya: Choose a track that really means the word “trance”.
Splint: Hm... That´s tough one... I don´t really think I could pick just one track as both smooth melodic vocal tracks and harder pumping stuff could define it. But being under gunpoint I would say Tiesto´s remix of Delerium´s Silence...

Ligaya: Best track ever? Whit a good explanation.
Splint: He he – Bastard :) Give me a minute to think about this one... Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire always seem to work. But depending on my set time I could also fire up under Dave Clarke - Red 5 or something like that...
